This isn't a paid project, but more of a 'hey we'll be doing some major terraforming.' This canal prpoject would connect Silent lake to the ocean via the abandoned canal project already shown on the map (the gray surface rock.) Part of this project would include replacing a highway with a bridge as well as replacing an existing landbridge with an elevated bridge. I don't expect we'll be beginning this project right away (I still have that highway to complete) but estimate by August we'll commence work on this project, at the latest.

Hi there. Cool idea, good luck! We live on the edge of the same desert (http://andistyr.github.io/wu-map/#castel-gandolfo), and we were planning to make a canal from there: andistyr.github.io/wu-map/#2723_924. When I saw your post, I thought that maybe we could help you with your project and then make another canal that would start here: andistyr.github.io/wu-map/#2995_1333, its end would be somewhere around our village. Would you like us to help you? There are two of us, we started playing two months ago.

Sounds good. Lynwood has a deed there now, but there's space around it (and he's aware of the project.) I'll attach a proposal/idea

This looks good to me although we'd like to connect also our main town to water with this somewhat artificial canal: imgur.com/a/dbIhBOur previous idea was to do something like this: imgur.com/a/irlecWe planned to make an underground tunnel. Then we saw your post and started to think that maybe we could make a surface canal. Seems like a lot of work though. What do you think? Does this sound possible?

Surface canal is possible, will definitely take some time. My deedmates and I just carved out a decent area on our deed (digging and surface mining.)
It's definitely ambitious, but doable. The most important thing is 1) getting permission to demolish a highway section but 2) immediately replace it with a bridge. There's at least 5 points of roadway that will be affected as such.
I'm totally down for it, I believe some of my deedmates will be. I'd like to finish the existing unfinished canal to the lake, then do the yellow connection you've drawn in, and finally northward through the desert.

Sound awesome, notify me when you'll start working on that. Me and my co-villager are willing to help.

I was thinking Early-August. I'm currently finishing up the first part of a road project and the second part should be done quickly.

Just a visual proposal - using a preset 400 height in Deedplanner although the natural terrain will be at varying heights ranging from 5 to 800 IIRC.

Discussion with Lynwood about approaching the canal (since it's in a direct line to his deed)
This approach or This would be ideal and it would involve expanding the lake to the opening

Google Doc I've set up on the Project: tinyurl.com/sklocanalAlso, should this thread be moved to a different forum? Would this be a General Discussion since it's not under the realm of Earning Silver Coins?

Would like to suggest doing boat tunnels instead of canals. Looks like the areas you are planning to work in are current hunting grounds for many people. I know I personally don't stay on roads while hunting and would hate to be blocked off by a deep canal

Only 4 tiles would be water ways, the rest would be restored to steppe, and the plan is to include bridges at intervals to traverse the canal by wagon/cart/foot
