Hi. I noticed before I joined the server one of the features was for surface mining. That should raise the rock layer on every hit. From what I understand this isn't working.. I've tried Mining multiple spots around the map about 10 times and always ends up under water unless I'm above 130ish and thats hard to find on the map around water where everyone wants to place a deed.... I understand how mining works but a minimum of 60-70 dirt to hit rock makes it very hard to find a nice spot around the small amount of water that can be found on Novus. All the decent spots have be taken or are going to need huge amounts of land scaping because of the hight and slope around the waters edge... I believe this is because of how the map was made. Its too low in most areas and no mountains to mine into and not many rivers/lakes/clay to put a deed near and too much dirt was dropped on the map during creation. As I've said I tried moving around the map multiple times that im at the point of giving up on wurm all together because I thought I finally found a decent server.. As wurm has no other way to change a tile to rock as of yet like you can clay/sand/tar/moss/peat and pretty much everything but rock can you please give players a option to request a way to make a mine near their town and pay for it with silver and or donate to request a gm to change a tile to rock and let them mine it themselves. This will open more areas for new players to buld a deed. Because alot of space on the map is unusable near the water because its impossible to make a mine above water level in most areas around the water because there are no mountains/rock or enough height above water without huge slopes and this is very evident by looking around the map at all of the attempts of people making a mine and abandoned deeds because they can't make a mine above water level and concrete doesn't work because most times rock is at 9-14 in most spots of the map unless like I said your above 130ish and thats very hard to find near water and that kinda defeats the problem..

Hey Whiteknight! There were two mines in that area we looked at. Did you open them up? I am pretty sure one of those was in use not long ago.

i talked already ingame with you about this and elfin and i helped you to open a mine closed your deed. concreate works, you can increase the rock layer. sure, first you need to dig all the dirt away, but you can make it self. and you are free, to found a second deed at a higher position, where you can mine rock and ores. each location advantages and disadvantages and we have enough free places on novus, check the livemap.

It is hard for me to understand exactly what you are trying to do. "I noticed before I joined the server one of the features was for surface mining. That should raise the rock layer on every hit." Surface mining takes the rock down.Yes you need to be approximately 100 above water to dig the dirt clear and find rock to start a mine. Our dirt layers varies and you can calculate approximately 50 until rock. You cannot settle on a flat coastal area and expect to make a mine easily. Snidor and myself have helped you make a mine that you can use. What are you trying to do Whiteknight? We would like to help and for you to enjoy wurm

Yes Elfin you did try to help but the mine was still too far away from my deed and still had water inside it and I couldn't use concrete to raise it.. Wess That mine is too far away from any decent spot around that area, and we haven't seen you sence we moved there.. we're at the other end of the island atm but still have the same problem...

as I said its basically impossible to find anywhere now on the map near water around 100 dirt high, that hasn't been taken or has a massive slope near the waters edge.. what else adds to the problem is there is no where that you can build a dock out to the water from town that isn't on a diagonal shorelin.

Also I know the surface mining mod isn't working because it should say "The rock layer is now at Blah" when you dig.

We don't run that particular mod on this server. The one we run simply makes each mining action take the rock down one slope/dirt each action. Wurm unlimited without this mod only gives you a chance each mining action to lower the rock.
With that said, there aren't too many places on the coast of Novus that you can make a mine without having water in it. It seems that Elfin and Snidor have already tried to help you out with that problem. You will probably need to take advantage of that, or move off the coast if you want a mine on your primary deed.

Maybe you should use this mod to solve that problem or give players the option to request a rock tile like you do for clay so they can build around the coastline.. what elfin and snidor did was just make more of a mess on my deed because I already tried 5 times around that area and that mine snidor made still has water inside and not near my deed and cant be raised with concrete because the ceiling is too low..

It's obvious you guys are not going to solve this problem on this map by using a mod to fix it or give new players the option to donate for rock tile like you can clay so you can open more spots for new players to deed. Just telling me to move isn't a option as you can see I've already moved multiple times and spent 4days trying to find a spot near the water I can mine that doesn't have a huge slope or diagonal shoreline... You just need to look around novus to see all the attempts of people trying to make a mine near the water and abandoned deeds because of this problem.

You can not have a coastal deed without water close to your height. The surface mining mod which we have btw. will not help you at all.
You will not find any map or any server where this is possible. In real life you also can't expect to build a cellar next to a lake without having problems with the water in the ground.
Wurm is a realistic game, it is not Minecraft.

hence why Notch moved onto better things "minecraft"
"You will not find any map or any server where this is possible" your wrong.. I've made many maps for wurm and its down to the amount of dirt you put on the map and the water level you set around land when making it and the heightmap also depends on this..
I can mine at 50 dirt height and hit rock at 30, or mine at 73 and hit rock at 38 on my test server, not -20 at 50 dirt like on Novus.

Yeah of course, if I just have a few dirts on the rock layer your problem will be solved, but people who want to flat some area into a hill will hit rock after a few tiles, which is quite a bad thing. You also could have a map just out of rock, which would solve your issue too, still not a very good solution. We decided to go the middle way. Still there is no way we could "fix" that just for you or we can help in any way. Elfin and Snidor did their best to help you.
