Bumping into trees all the time is not good for my head. I need a road!
and then I curve it to the east.

There is already a road running to the same destination just 60 tiles east. So its not rly necessary to have another road. Due to that there will be no payment for this road.

aww, okies. Rules said more than 60 tiles away, so this was more than 60.
Other road is at 1791, this one is at 1729, on the closest sides, and that's 62 tiles of grass between...
That's disappointing. I will still complete it because it's functional for me.
But my next question would be -- if rules page is wrong -- how far away is recommended? Was it meant to say 70 tiles as a minimum?

Its more a range. From 60 - 100 tiles. Everything below 60 tiles is automatically a duplicate road and will not be paid. If its more than 60 tiles it depends on how much its over the limit, the surrounding road system and the usage it has for people traveling through the area.
In your case, yes its above 60 tiles but just slightly. There is a good road network all around so the benefit for travelers is rather slim. So the extra road is not rly necessary. You are ofc free to go to continue your plans like you please.
I will make the rules more specific to avoid further confusion.

Okie, thank you for the clarification. I get a surprising amount of people through my deed, wanting to see all the archae statues, and it will be much easier to direct them to follow that new path, than trying to explain which roads to take to get them there. Also, I travel it daily at least once, so it's easier on my head. Thanks for the reply.
