Dreamland - Mayor Iamyourfather.
Iamyourfather was quietly enjoying his farming when I approached him. This is where he feels most comfortable - on his deed. Mining, farming.
I had to do a lot of gentle arm twisting for him to overcome his natural shyness and agree to an interview. Then realizing that he was committed he went into a panic mode.

Iamyourfather: "I need to finish the underground dock and fill my wine cellar, and rebuild one building as the wall does not quite fit as it should.
“I am still nervous about doing it though but I only have a modest deed so shouldn't take too long too."
Elfin: "I will just say, you cannot hide forever."
A week later we met up while Iamyourfather was searching for a 5sp pinto horse. I happened to have one looking for a good home. Riding on carts tends to give him motion sickness and so he uses a horse for hunting. We met up in the BG tunnel for the exchange and Iamyourfather said, "I think my deed is ready."
I could tell he was still very nervous for he picked up the pinto then began to go the wrong way for quite some time before realizing. After teasing him that he was now officially blonde I headed home laughing.
Another week went by and finally I was able to find him hiding in a mine where he was trying to gain 60 in body stamina.
Iamyorfather: "I am trying to get my body stamina to level 60. It has been at around 58 or 59 for a few weeks and I wanted to round it up to 60, it bugs me when skills are so close.”
Iamyourfather started playing Wurm Online on the Deliverance server as a mining slave for Badgirl, his real life wife.
Iamyourfather: "Back then it was awful graphics wise. You stood up on horses and animals used to slide along the ground but I liked the mechanics of the game. I'm not into first person shooters or war games, so the steady pace of skilling and crafting I really liked. I would log on when Badgirl needed ore or rock, mine for her then log out. She gave me my first plot to do with as I wished. That was okay to start but I'm not an easy person to live with in-game. Badgirl is a little more carefree than me."
Elfin: "You have place for everything and everything in its place?"
Iamyourfather: "Yes very much so. This would lead to friction between us. That's when I decided to jump in and go premium to build my own deed is I liked it. The first thing most people say, when they realize we are married in real life, is why don't you live together? She can't cope with my overly obsessive nature which I do understand. We have always been neighbours though of course. I always bred animals for us and mined. She did most of the building. I'm not really a builder, most buildings for me are functional. My most favorite thing is terraforming."
Elfin: "Did you find that simple in the beginning?"
Iamyourfather: "Oh not at all, back then it was hard. Surface mining was awful. But I still loved it. That way I can really change the landscape. Most games don't give you that.”
Elfin: "Had you played many other sandbox survival games?"
Iamyourfather: "No I was more of a console gamer back then, I played a lot of driving games mostly. Wurm was a whole new world. I think that's why it grabbed me. Of course being a miner it made sense to also become a blacksmith. That's when I really fell in love with the game. I have always been a blacksmith on every server. I like the feel of standing at a forge and creating things. I still love it even this far down the road. I blacksmith just for fun sometimes. I play with no sound, I always have. WO had gotten too expensive to play, and WU was announced so as soon as it came out Badgirl and I got it right away. I still have a guy on WO but never use him anymore.
"My son Izu went looking for a server on which we could all play on. We went to Wyvern. It was an okay server but not much input from the owners. I found the meditation and priest side there very frustrating as it was WO speed, slow. I had tried being a priest on WO and it just wasn't possible so I was hoping it was faster on WU server. It would of taken years to build a good Vynora priest. So I gave up and went back to terraforming.”
Just then Iamyourfather realised he had just reached his goal for the day. Body stamina increased by 0.0010 to 60.0002
Iamyourfather beamed: "Nice round 60. Any skill that is close to a round number I have to push and do it. Can't help myself.”
Iamyourfather: "I think we played Wyvern for around six months. Izu got bored one afternoon and went looking elsewhere, we told him he'd better not jinx Wyvern. That night it closed down. Badgirl and I couldn't believe it.
“We both began to laugh and I said, ‘well this time we cannot blame Ivan’.”
Iamyourfather: "We did blame Izu though. We told him he had better find us a new home and fast.
"We chose Sklotopolis. He had found it the day before Wyvern died. We loved it right from the start.
“We spawned in Haven that was the start spawn when we arrived. Izu already had planted a deed on the south side of the lake we now live on so it made sense to move close to him. We rode down at the start didn't even think about the free teleport. It was quiet in the south back then.”
Iamyourfather: "We found Haven very well organized and easy to find where to go. We were given lots of hi's and welcomes. I remember the ride down being full of danger. The desert especially. As we traveled down I remember people asking in Local chat if we were okay."
Elfin: "You were too busy running to type back?"
Iamyourfather: "Yes! Rushing to type help at guard towers because we didn't know about key binds.
"Looking back now to those early days on Deli I don't know how we survived, doing everything the hard way. When imping right clicking and choosing imp from the menu now it's all bound to numbers and press away. Planting crops with 60 seeds and right click plant now, all seeds in a satchel/backpack on my tool belt and key bind sow - just walk and press "3" and "f". Select and sow.
"Some days I just stand on my balcony looking out over the lake and chat to other players, you can do so much or nothing at all and still enjoy life here on Sklo.
"When we started WU it wasn't the plan to play with Izu on Wyvern. He needed something one day and he got me to log in to help him so I chose the name Iamyourfather to annoy him. We liked where he was and we stayed. So the name stuck. “Badgirl got here after Izu and picked the east shore of the lake. I got here last and found an old abandoned deed on the north shore. Everywhere I have ever lived in Wurm has been flat, this place had some tiers already built and I liked the look of it so I planted my token and set to work making it my own. It already had a tower here and I always wanted Hell Horses so I never hired any templar's. I have been here almost two years now, seen a lot of people come and go.
“In some ways it's changed a lot here but in others it's the same. The bridge has always been here but it was smaller back then only three tiles long, now it's bigger as I had to make the canal wider for what I wanted.
"The mine was a priority however first I had to correct where the original entrance was, it was crooked and ugly. The main entrance is still one tile. I find three a little over-kill and two doesn't work with any door so it stayed as a one tile entrance. With the mine entry it was one dirt out on one side so I dug off around 2.5k dirt to fix that one dirt in the doorway. The slope above the mine is 300 dirt high. It bugged me so much it really had to be done. It was a 25 minute timer to flat raise all the dirt back into place, but it looked perfect. If I can find the get up and go to move the farm, maybe one day. I hate mess so construction is a headache for me. Terraforming fresh land though isn't a problem as it is creation. However it is changing what's there that is the problem, I don't deal with change very well. It's one of the reasons I stay put once I have made a deed. I always planned to build a castle above it on the top tier but it became my farm as I need the crops for all the casting. My farm has the best views on deed.
"I don't build much, as I said for me buildings are mostly functional, but I do like experimenting with what can be done as you will see when you look at my kitchen/wine cellar. I like to play with mixing wall and fence types and balconies to try and build something unique. It doesn't always work and can be a pain bashing and building to get things to look how I want. For instance, in a mine I don't like a gap over walls so I will collapse to get the height exactly right. My mine workshop was built and destroyed three times to get it how I wanted it. There is still one wall I'm not happy with but I can't find a work-around yet so I don't look at it. As I said I can be a little over-obsessive with some things. But I do love the way it looks and it's the building I spend most of my time in.”
Another of Iamyourfather’s favourite skills in Wurm is animal husbandry. For this he needs to be a Fo priest. With there being no penalties in Sklotopolis for being a priest he can do smithing as well.
Iamyourfather: "I was very excited about starting a priest here as I had read it was faster.
"When I first started here on Sklo I knew with the tweaks to game-play a priest would be possible. So after finding a spot to live I made two priests. A Fo and a Vyn. I ran them both up to the WL from the start to pray and convert. They stayed there praying until they both had 30 faith to become priests as soon as possible. The WL was a scary place to be. They were only at the WL for two days at the most. As soon as they became priests I used the village teleport to get them to deed. Once on deed it was just a matter of time praying and blessing over and over. Very boring, that's why priests make good alts. While they did that I farmed to improve my chances of good crops for casting and sacrificing. In between blacksmithing and grooming of course. I got to almost 90 faith just from praying. I also got a lot of help from the Dewhurst Downs Impalong, with the sermons held there. Then friends would drop by to act as listeners to help me get those last few faith ticks. I was far too shy to ask outright for help. After reaching 100 faith it's just the slow grind to build channeling. Tons of crops and just time. Using sleep bonus helps but it is just a matter of casting bless over and over. The right food too. Every little bit helps. I'm stubborn.
"I really enjoy casting it’s almost like playing the Lotto for me. Next cast could be 100 or a shatter. I cast just for fun at times. I needed a leggat yesterday just to make a small roof, so I thought I may as well cast on it.... got 97coc. Totally useless but I had fun doing it. What I really love is hitting the jackpot on some one’s tools, I picture their face when they get it back. That's more of a reward than any payment. I have another Fo priest which I use for only casting, I can play and also stand at an alter all day casting bless to raise the channeling skill.
“So I am Fo for breeding and doing fun things and Angel is Fo just for casting LT. Of course I also have a Vyn and Mag priest for all other enchants. My Vyn is pretty good now, almost 95 channeling.
"I farm a lot. I need it when casting high ql enchants - easy to burn through 5k crops when bulk casting. I enjoy enchanting but it can be frustrating at times and very painful when you shatter someone’s pride and joy. Which has happened."
Elfin: "Something you never get used to I imagine?"
Iamyourfather: "Oh no, I'm heartbroken when it happens. I will go out of my way to replace anything that shatters. Even rare items. I had a friend who could make most rare items to order so if the worst thing happened I would order a new item and replace at my cost. Most everyday things I can replace myself."
Elfin: "Very nice of you I am as most players know and accept the risk with enchants."
Iamyourfather: "I know and I explain the risk every time but I can't cope when it happens. So I try to replace."
Iamyourfather then shared how he really enjoys the enchanting of other players items for the joy of getting top enchants and seeing the player’s reactions.
Iamyourfather: "When I first started enchanting at 50 channeling, one of the first enchants was 103. I almost fell off my chair. It's so, so random.
"I love the slayings and events. One sideline of building a Fo priest for enchanting is it makes a good healer. Even better that she is on the meditation path of love too. I enjoy being a healer at events.”
"For me Wurm is so much more than digging and building. With the issues I have with my spine I find it a nice relaxing place to spend time. It is why I'm here most of time. I have a lot of pain and I'm not very mobile but Wurm takes my mind off it. I do look on the bright side most times, some people are a whole lot worse off.
Recently Iamyourfather had a bad experience with another player stealing from him.
Iamyourfather: "I logged on to find another player on my deed and the embalmed Easter bunnies I had on my dock were gone. I asked if she had seen them and she happily said yes she had them and did I want them back. It wasn't until I started to look around to find other things missing too so I asked her and she said, ‘yes I have them they are mine now I looted them’. I said, ‘no you didn't loot them, you have stolen them’. She said, ‘I have donated now and I can take what I want’.
“I was astounded, she had no remorse at all. She had run for home by then so I let Wreck know what had happened and asked for permission to log Lucifer in to check her out as she wouldn't give anything up. Wreck said of course, he and Arbi joined me. As we searched her deed the full picture became clear, I was just in shock mostly. We found items from Badgirl and Droc of course. Ally has full access on his deed so he was an easy target. Even Dom/Engi helped at very short notice. We got back most things. Just some bulk items that can be replaced were lost. She was actually in Badgirl's storehouse snooping through her bsb when we logged. As I said at the time it's just pixels. "My deed is still all public with everything open. I think you always get the odd one but overall most are good people. When things like that happen I try to forget it and still trust others the same. I try not to let it spoil things I still trust people. Just a small review of deed settings is all
"Everything I do in Wurm is an adventure. Always something unexpected around the corner. Even if it's someone stripping your deed.”
"Just got a farming tick [12:12:26] Farming increased by 0.0010 to 99.7352. I don't get them very often.
Elfin: "Congratulations."
Iamyourfather described his 'normal day in Wurm'.
"I log in and look to see what is needed to be done, normally I say hi to everyone then go and farm. I then stand on my balcony, look out over the lake and ponder what to do next. I try not to plan things, I like to just go with the flow. It’s more relaxing.
“Now my children are older they are off doing their own thing mostly, Badgirl looks after all the household duties. I help with the bits I can do. I don't let it rule me.
"I am lucky in that all of us love to game so we play together a lot. Only our youngest isn't a Wurm player. He says it's boring.
"In the game I always try to help as much as I can. In chat and in helping newcomers get started. So after time playing people notice you help and remember. Staff comes and goes so when there was a need for more I was asked if I would join. I was unsure of whether I wanted to. Playing as a player changes when you become staff. I was told by the CA staff at the time I was doing the job of a CA anyway. So I was handed the title of CA to make it official. I was very proud that people thought of me that way.
"Wreck was talking one day about needing more GM help and of reshuffling the GM roles. He asked me how I felt about helping. I said I needed time to think as for me it was a big step. Now I have more confidence I love it."
Elfin: "So, you had little confidence in the beginning, I so identify with that."
Iamyourfather: "I was a little overwhelmed to be honest. Wreck and Arbi are great, anything I'm unsure of or need to be talked through they are always there. I can help people out even more now. I was lucky too as Wreck let me choose Lucifer's name. At unique events it is also fun to watch from above.
"So, so different playing on a GM acc. I have been helping with the clean-up list so getting to see how other players design their deeds is a lot of fun. It comes at a cost as there are strict guidelines. As a player, looting and exploring disbanded deeds is no longer an option when you are also a GM of course."
On that note we gently closed the door on Lucifer.
Iamyourfather: "Badgirl and I are hosting are the next unique event very soon, our first time as hosts, so I'm a little nervous. So let's hope Lucifer can do it.”

This turned out to be a lot of fun and a huge success for them.
Elfin: "What was your first unique event?"
Iamyourfather: "I think the first one was a Troll king, Badgirl won the skull. My first event as a healer was very scary, I had never done it before and the dedicated healer couldn't make it so I was asked to take over. I had been filling gems with favor luckily. I hadn't a clue what to do. But as ever, plenty of people explained what was needed and not to panic. Sklo has a lot of great people both past and present. I don't think anyone died my first time. From then on I was happy to do it if needed. I always have so many gems from all the mining. I try not to heal now unless really needed as we have some new healers after Novus joined Liberty and I like them to have a go and have the fun I had. To be honest I like that with most aspects of Wurm, I let others have a chance before wading in. If someone wants to buy in trade I will give others time before asking if their order is now filled. I would simply give things away if it would not destroy the economy. I don't need money anymore, where others do. The reward for me is happy people. Happy people keep playing on Sklo."
Elfin: "Anyone would think that you love Sklo."
Iamyourfather: "After playing here for almost two years you could say that. As I said it’s somewhere I can just chat if I choose. You can always tell if I'm busy on a project because I go very quiet in chat. I get tunnel vision until I'm done with it. Part of my obsessive nature I think. I have to get it done then it's out of my mind."
Elfin: "That zone where time just gets turbocharged and you don't notice it passing?"
Iamyourfather: "Yeah, that's when Badgirl gets angry with me because I'm no longer listening to her. I shut everything out to get things done. I like order. I'm lucky she loves Wurm too. We do play some other games. We like to play Rust with Izu. Very different to Wurm. But we only play that just for giggles. It has been a good place to take a break from mining for her over the last few weeks.
Iamyourfather: Thanks for visiting Elfin, I really enjoyed chatting in the end after being worried about it. It was good to think back.
“I don't get out much so for me Wurms a window to a bigger world where I can do as much or as little as I like and always find a friend to chat to whether it be ragging someone in fun or helping. I love life on Sklo and nowhere else is like it. The people of Sklo are incredible, from Dominikk and Engineer, right down to the next newcomer who finds Sklo by accident."
As I closed my notebook and tip-toed away I could hear Iamyourfather working out how he could fix that wall before the tour. Would he have time, could it be done, mmm, maybe demolish the whole building and rebuild. It shall be interesting to see what he actually does
.
The Tour
Iamyourfather was late and flying down the road to met up with Elfin and Goodgirl. Both of whom were admiring the views.
Iamyourfather: "I love living on the lake, when I first moved here the bridge was too small for what I wanted so the first job was to remove it and make a bigger one. I had to be quick as it’s part of the highway. "I wanted an underground dock and canal big enough to park my boats."
Iamyourfather: "This is Wreck, I won him in a scavenger hunt. (Demon Hota) "Dreamland was my deed name from WO. I always liked the name. The name came from the name for Area 51, it's also called Dreamland, I like the idea of secret things going on there."
"The inspiration for the dock came from Yaga, I loved how he made his. The Easter Bunnies used to be three but only two came back. No worries, I'm happy I got any back. They are so cute but so dark in death."
Iamyourfather: "I like to keep my salesman public to help others that need one.”
Iamyourfather: "Lucky dip for anyone, just for fun.”
Elfin: "You put the rake in your pocket without showing it to the people around you."
Iamyourfather: "I like to play around with the wall types to make less blocky shapes.”

Iamyourfather: "My tower is new this week. It's a peacekeeper tower, I love the colors. A rare tower inside it to make it shine. I spent months trying to make a rare one but gave up. A friend Sirrobin made one for me and had a GM ship it here. I wanted to pay him 1g for it but wouldn't let me so he has a sign.
Iamyourfather: "Now my tortoises are happy they are a family. He's lucky, he has two lady friends.”
Iamyourfather: "Oooo, my kitty is angry at something. Big and colorful!!!”
Elfin: "Oh, green wolf shimmers.”

Iamyourfather: "Here is my Engi shrine. You press the embalmed Engineer corpse close to your chest. He died, I think at the hands of Amberly. He then auctioned his body for fun and I got it. I hug him every day, haha.”
Iamyourfather: "Up the hill through the colossus is what was the bane of my life for a few weeks. The gorillas kept wandering down from the mountain and killing my horses.”
Iamyourfather: "This is my stable, I split the roof into high and low to keep the height down. I don't sell horses, I only breed for myself, Bg and Droc.”
Elfin: "HMS Storage. Spirit gate ones pathway to enlightenment - ties in nice with Dreamland."
Iamyourfather: "HMS Storage is just as the name says, keeps all my crates tidy. I was going to build a storehouse but that isn't as much fun as a ship I thought. It fits the coastal feel. Plus you can still use the crow's nest. It's a great view. So I kept it."
Iamyourfather: “This is my little leather/tailors shop mostly just functional. I hate mess with a passion. As ever kept the view.”
Iamyourfather: "All the buildings used to be stone until all the new textures came in.
Iamyourfather: "I don't like the roof it's too high in my opinion. I would like the middle tile lower.”

Iamyourfather: "My underground dock. I only got this finished because of you coming. It was unfinished for over a year. It has a smuggler feel to it. Needs barrels and crates to finish it I think.
"I love the view from down here, I think it works very well, ignoring the obvious gap of course.”
Iamyourfather: "Please don't feed the prisoner. He is my slave.”

"My Hall of Death. Champion demon, found him on my deed one morning.”
Iamyourfather: "My Bridge of Doom. I love to play around with different layers underground.
"Leads nicely into my wine cellar. I don't do any brewing yet so just for looks for now. I wanted to create a basement and this was the best I could come up with. Looks like one building but it's two. I think the pottery brick looks nice too.”
Iamyourfather: "Kitchen is just for show, I don't do any cooking yet. Collecting odd rares is a hobby.”
"Okay, Tunnel of Doom time.
“Oops, house first. I didn't plan the house, I just started building and it turned out like this.
“Another odd rare.”
Iamyourfather: "Oh and my anti-Thu gnomes of course.”
Iamyourfather: "Badgirl did the decorating in here. I love it. Not too cluttered. Wish I could lie on the chaise. Bell for my slave. Reading nook.”
Iamyourfather: "I spend a lot of time here too, casting for hours, it is horrid. Kept the view unblocked for casting days. Channeling is still only 95.
"Now when I got 100 faith I prayed alone for so long, getting almost nothing until a very dear friend came along to help again. Within a few days I was done and said friend gathered more friends to celebrate the event with fireworks and a huge light into the sky. I still smile remembering.
"I love the new place-feature, it allows so much more."
"Okay, doom time. The bridge for carts. It used to be a dirt ramp up to my farm but it was boring. Red for me must be cave vision. The Bridge of DOOOOM.
"Up here is my farm. I need it for all the casting. The best views are up here. I mostly use wemp to be honest, it stores better for me. My Fo uses garlic. A bsb on my balcony works better than an fsb.
"There is a quick way down. Jump into the mine entry, ha always fun.”
“That's about it for me, thank you for coming to look at my humble abode."
As I left I noticed a huge Fo colossus rising out of the lake.
Iamyourfather explained: "I built it swimming and when I ran out of stamina, from my knarr.”
As I rode away I reflected on how tidy and organized Dreamland was and what an inspirational a player Iamyourfather is.

Iamyourfather: "My underground dock. I only got this finished because of you coming. It was unfinished for over a year. It has a smuggler feel to it. Needs barrels and crates to finish it I think.
"I love the view from down here, I think it works very well, ignoring the obvious gap of course.”
Iamyourfather: "Please don't feed the prisoner. He is my slave.”
Iamyourfather:"My Hall of Death. Champion demon, found him on my deed one morning.”
Iamyourfather: "My Bridge of Doom. I love to play around with different layers underground.
"Leads nicely into my wine cellar. I don't do any brewing yet so just for looks for now. I wanted to create a basement and this was the best I could come up with. Looks like one building but it's two. I think the pottery brick looks nice too.”
Iamyourfather: "Kitchen is just for show, I don't do any cooking yet. Collecting odd rares is a hobby.”
"Okay, Tunnel of Doom time.
“Oops, house first. I didn't plan the house, I just started building and it turned out like this.
“Another odd rare.”
Iamyourfather: "Oh and my anti-Thu gnomes of course.”
Iamyourfather: "Badgirl did the decorating in here. I love it. Not too cluttered. Wish I could lie on the chaise. Bell for my slave. Reading nook.”
Iamyourfather: "I spend a lot of time here too, casting for hours, it is horrid. Kept the view unblocked for casting days. Channeling is still only 95.
"Now when I got 100 faith I prayed alone for so long, getting almost nothing until a very dear friend came along to help again. Within a few days I was done and said friend gathered more friends to celebrate the event with fireworks and a huge light into the sky. I still smile remembering.
"I love the new place-feature, it allows so much more."
"Okay, doom time. The bridge for carts. It used to be a dirt ramp up to my farm but it was boring. Red for me must be cave vision. The Bridge of DOOOOM.
"Up here is my farm. I need it for all the casting. The best views are up here. I mostly use wemp to be honest, it stores better for me. My Fo uses garlic. A bsb on my balcony works better than an fsb.
"There is a quick way down. Jump into the mine entry, ha always fun.”
“That's about it for me, thank you for coming to look at my humble abode."
As I left I noticed a huge Fo colossus rising out of the lake.
Iamyourfather explained: "I built it swimming and when I ran out of stamina, from my knarr.”
As I rode away I reflected on how tidy and organized Dreamland was and what an inspirational a player Iamyourfather is.
