I tried to receive some mail from the box that was labelled as 35c but it charged me about 5s and gave the other player (Vanilje) only 90c. When we tried to rectify this by me sending it back for the same price they were charged 4s and 30c and i only received 30c. If you need my event logs please let me know I will find some way to send them to you, thanks!

I was sent 933 Pinenuts inside 10 satchels, 4 in 2x backpacks and 2 in barrel. The backpacks were listed as 35c but when i accepted one it took a little over 5s from my bank and when I sent it back it took a little over 4s from him neither of us got the full ammount that was taken by the imps.
Was sent by mail with COD

For future reference, use the satchels as you did but CoD a single item (typically a woodscrap) for the money part.

It's an old issue that really only hurts new players who run the potential of ragequitting when they run into something like this. OP is already planning to abandon his character as a result. Dominikk says here it is intended as a cost of doing business but since everyone who has spent any time on the server now knows how to circumvent it, it is only really a NEWBIE TAX. They should just remove the COD mail cost entirely : - If you are buying a small amount of large ticket items, it is too small a charge to discourage mailbox sales vs face to face. 1c charge for a 5s sword? No biggie.
- If you are buying cheap bulk items, it is way too much so experienced players simply use a woodscrap "bill" to circumvent.
Gamelay mechanics like this that ONLY HURT INEXPERIENCED PLAYERS are *not* a good gameplay mechanic.

This is pretty basic wurm knowledge though, imo the seller should've warned you about this The COD cost is clearly displayed when mailing items So you just screwed each other over basically

I have to agree with dextrome here. The mailbox outlines this when it is sent and the cost when getting it out of the mailbox is clear.

Same thing happened to me, when I was new-ish (6 months in), and was buying from a much more experienced player (tomservo) who also had never heard of this. Even Dominikk in another earlier 2016 thread first assumed it was an error (later he decided it was intended). I was lucky, in that in my case the seller was a super good guy who took pity on me and refunded me the mail fees. Neither one of us had noticed the "obvious" fee in the COD dialogue. Why? Lots of reasons, but primarily for newer players it is because Wurm is nonstop information overload and it is near impossible to be paying 100 percent attention to every single detail when the game is nothing but complicated detail. But hey whatever. It doesn't affect ME, since I am now part of the "In The Know" club, and thus the game mechanic does not affect me and others in that club, only the ones who we can claim "twas their own fault" for "being dummies". If new players like OP decide to just give up on a character when they have their bank account wiped out by not noticing a detail that also escapes more experienced players, who gets hurt? Not us, amirite? In fact it teaches them a valuable lesson about life and hey it Builds Character. What is the PURPOSE of the fee, if it doesn't affect anyone except the most inexperienced of players? It does not affect economic trade behaviour. (we know the loophole) It does not act as a needed money sink. (we know the loophole) It does not "add immersion". (unless you think knowing loopholes makes the game more fun) Sending someone a junk piece of wood and charging them an outrageous price for said junk, in order to evade a "tax," is realism only in the sense that people will always look for exploits to evade taxes etc. So I guess THAT'S the realism -- we teach new players how to exploit the game.

Nettles puts it so well. I constantly hear from players about this. New players have so much to take in, things that the longer time player takes for granted are a huge learning curve to them. This really stings the new player.

This really stings the new player. I agree it's a hassle, but it's really only a matter of reading before clicking COD-ing items should not be done mindlessly, not even when you're familiar with the game - or you can be as careless as you want ofc but then you have to accept the consequences as well
