For six years I have had a lot fun at Sklotopolis events. The unique events, the scavenger hunts, the races, the hunger games, the troll raids so many fun adventures. Originally we just trapped the unique where it spawned and had the event there. The event arenas grew being built by various players. Do you have an arena, area suitable? This thread is open for feedback:- - What you enjoy at the events.
- Ideas to improve the fun.
- Anything niggles and suggestion of what can be done to change.
- Any input that would make event run smoother or more exciting.
- Suggestions of future events.
Maybe you are planning an event? Let us know as this is about all events, not just the unique fights. We are happy to help with such community events.

I attended yesterdays Black drake fight on Liberty. The staff and volunteers did a tremendous job and any of my suggestions or observations are not a reflection on them. I want to make that clear as the event and recent changes have been a bit of a surprise to me.
First off the spawning of the unique versus the old method of trapping and digging out is very helpful to staff. However it makes the build up to the event far less suspenseful and interesting to me. I admit my perspective comes a lot from being a tank, but in a general sense there always seemed to more building up and ceremony when the unique was dug out of the trap.
I get the sense not as many players adventure for unique's when they spawn in the wild. I have always felt that incentives help motivate players and bring the community out to have fun. Offer a bounty of silver for finding and trapping a unique. The amount of silver is something that can be discussed but maybe 5-10 silver split between however many hunters there are. We have a great set up on Sklo to get out and adventure with no penalty for death and no skill loss. It is a lot of fun getting out to see the land as you look for a drake or a silly building raiding goblin leader.
The raffle at the event was very very confusing and went way way to fast. I love the automation and the popups for winners, but the timing is way way to fast. It was never on my screen long enough to even know what was being raffled and the time between items needs to be longer. This is all stuff that can be tweaked, but it so mechanical and sterile going that fast. I just gave up even watching it as I could not keep up.
Finally I want to pass along what events have meant to me since I started on Sklo and why I hope we can tweak some changes to make the events as awesome as they can be. When I first came here I was burned out from having played WO so I was a virtual hermit. I set up my deed and kept to myself. After a few months I joined in on the rift test and then helped out at the first Liberty rift by bringing veggies for saccing for the healers. That lead to me joining and ally and attending unique fights and eventually getting confident enough to tank.
Events have always felt like community gatherings and the amount of time they take should be the last thing that matters. Some times its nice to slow down and just enjoy the folks around us.

My first event on liberty was long before raffle mods or traps or even event spaces. Gatwick said hey get over here we have an event today (i didn't know cause I had not looked at the forums) It was a Dragon followed by a Forest Giant (double feature because the Forest Giant happened to spawn a few days before the event fairly close to where a player trapped the dragon) after the Dragon we all went around 200 tiles or more into the woods and fought the Giant. It was so much fun. I sometimes think we overdo our community events, they are too clean of spaces and the fights are just blah...We fixed the raffle to make it less cumbersome on the person raffling (but minor tweaks will be made to slow it down a bit).
The first event I hosted (I co-hosted with Klarseth), we found a Forest Giant, i think, in the middle of no where. So while a couple of players ran it around a couple of us worked on digging out the dirt to find a rock tile. then opened it up, mined out a 20 tile hallway...then took turns trying to drag that thing into the cave. it took us a but if time to close the trap and we died too many times...but we finally trapped it once Fish arrived (a mag priest who had some internet challenges that day). We set the date for the fight...then flattened out an area around the trap. Added some fancy to it and a fence so when the fight started the giant would not get away. Then after everyone left we returned the space back to nature. I miss those events. At that time the raffle was done so much differently. Wreck would grab a few items from the GM storage and players would give some nice donations, but back then we didn't use google docs the same way and the rolling was using the random rolling instruction directly from the game (no mods) And many complained it took too long (that was before the 10 item donation limit, we had very generous players back then).
Dordain, one clarification, this event and the previous event the creature was not spawned into the event...It was summoned, this event it was still wandering in the forest, the previous was in the trap and because of logistics it was summoned. One of the reasons the server slowed down the spawn rate for uniques was because the lack of excitement to capture and then we had another spawn...and we were getting backed up and doing double features. We do need more to go out and capture these beasts, however even with all the fancy great things we have, getting the creature in the trap usually requires a GM to help give permissions to open up the trap. And captures don't always happen when GMs or deed holders are available.
I agree about the raffle going to quickly, in the future when I am running the raffle I will take a little more time and announce each item before raffling the item. I will also ask Dominikk to see if he can make the on screen message last a bit longer on the screen before it disappears (but it also shows in the event tab and in the Skl Raffle tab.) It's a great mod, as a GM (I am also Glaaki) you hold all the items your raffling, click on the item and select raffle item and the mod takes over. It's great. I don't know how many raffles I administered with the old way which mostly it required the raffler to do a lot.

That might the most passive aggressive lectures I have gotten here and I have interacted with Vitez. First of spawn, summon your splitting hairs talking down to me like I am a total idiot. I guess being dumb I need to break it down even further to make myself understood. Until recently the unqiue was always in the trap and players/staff dug it out giving the tanks and the army some anticipation and suspense. Now its plopped on the floor like a sack of trash.
Thanks for straightening me out how the rigors of trapping. You would think having trapped a dozen or more myself or as part of a team I would of learned all the hoops and hardships. Maybe just maybe we should give normal scrub dummies like myself more freedom to trap uniques at public arenas instead of using the well there was no GM around as an excuse.
Look I gave my two cents and all I got in return was abuse. Which tells me you took it personally and have zero interest in making events any better. Fair enough if the "community" wants a drive by loot raffle once a month then so be it. One less thing for players like me to worry about. Which is good as Sklo offers so many opportunities for fun in Wurm I can gladly ignore events to focus on other tasks.

I had only attended a few events before returning to Sklotopolis late last year. The event arenas that have been built by more experienced players are a great feature on Sklo! For example, Snidor's monuments to past events were particularly great to pass by as we head into the arena for the latest challenge. Perhaps, continuing that idea with a little monument/statue (hota or arch statues??) for each unique slayed would be a good idea.
Summoning the unique makes it more arbitrary which arena is used, so perhaps the host can simply choose their favorite. Or we can have specialized/themed slaying areas for each unique: goblin leader underground (blood gives mining potion), dragon hatchlings in a different underground arena shaped like a dragon nest, dragons could be fought out on a lake town (like the Hobbitt), forested arena for forest giant, mountain top for the troll king (yields stone cutting potion) and kyklops...in a long pit where we have to slay hordes of beasts that yield hides to reach him (blood yields leatherworking potion). For this later idea, the statue/monument to past, slain uniques should perhaps be localized in one place per map (thinking near starter town or Dom/Eng newer builds).
Going a step further, uniques can still be trapped where they are found in make-shift traps before being summoned like Dordain suggests. I was pretty pumped up to trap the black drake last weekend, but it seemed unnecessary. Gkkua pointed out that it's a pain to have the unique wondering the map unchecked as a matter of practice. I also like Dordain's idea of rewarding the trappers. The reward could be from the "king" for protecting wurmians until the event (with an warrant posted on starter town event boards for trapped uniques stating the bounty). In this scenario, the monuments to past, slain uniques could instead reside at the relevant trapper's deed!
Going yet further, some uniques (venerable for example, or troll kings specifically (who 'hunt' for Wurmians with his fellow trolls) can be summoned to the middle of Caza for especially dangerous boss events (where death really matters).
Another special event idea: Olloyd, myself and others chatted in global awhile back about a survival event where mobs came into an arena in waves. The idea would be that only the best would even survive to the last event - multiple uniques at once. Participants could be recognized in the end for having made it farther than in previous events.
One more crazy idea would be unique slaying meets hunger games. Participants enter a PvE arena, uniques spawn in arena. After fighting starts, the inside of the arena becomes PvP...
About summoning, I also was curious about this for the first event it was used, as it may suggest the creature was magic'ed with a wand. That is not the case! The "wild," spontaneously spawn uniques are simply summoned to where we need it. I think that is an important distinction. This can happen from the random trapped location posted on the forums by the trappers to the hosted arena just fine.
Lastly, I agree the raffle should be closer to the old speed. The donors deserve to have people read what is given away, and I believe we want the suspense each RNG.

Just my 2 pence: In the last slaying case, i have spent quite a lot of time looking for that hatchling, 3 days, 2+ hours each day with scanner enabled. No luck. It has spawned on 9th of January and wasn't found by players for 2 weeks. So there are 2 ways to look at it; Staff summons the mob from where ever it is hiding and we all have a bit of fun on a Saturday evening or It hides somewhere for months, forgotten about, lonely and probably scared. I don't care about RP enough to opt for the latter. We had some fun, we got the rewards. Perhaps another option would be to summon it in to the trap before players start arriving at the event area but then it would have enough time to bash through the fences and cause more issues. Another trap, one without fences might be a better place but most of them aren't built so tall and fighting or taking screenshots of the event would look like 40 people fighting a spider in a 4x4 cave. I enjoyed the event. In reality, if someone said they lured and trapped the hatchling but in fact they summoned it a day before in to the cave from where ever that thing was hiding, we wouldn't know. Other than the fact that they couldn't lure it through the fence without bashing it first. I think this was the right way to do it, considering that black hatchling can throw players quite far, fighting it in a cave was the best option. Maybe we could rework the other traps so that one side can be mined out and collapsed but still deep and big enough for 50 people to fight inside? Then, in case of uniques hiding in caves which aren't found for weeks/months a GM can summon them in to the cave few days prior to the slaying without the risk of it bashing its way out but at the same time people arriving at the event can see it's already there if it matters to them? Back on topic: The Special Delivery Event which i mentioned here was very fun and i'd like to do it again: sklotopolis.freeforums.net/thread/6526/special-delivery-eventtrivia/quiz events might be worth giving a shot but to make it an actual social event, they would have to be done in local chat, at one of the event areas. Maybe in a pub, while people are sitting and drinking and whatnot. Races though mazes, not as complicated as the house of madness, something that can be navigated while mounted (or not, that's another option but new players with lower stamina would be at a disadvantage) that would not only use the capped speed of the vehicles and mounts but would also require a bit of driving skills. This would have to be expanded on somehow so that it's not a 60 minutes of traveling to the event for a 15 minutes of actual event. Catapulting inscribed (with reward number) papers in to a large pen (or a maze as well). Entrance in to the maze or pen opens once catapulting is done. Each player can pick up and claim only one. Paper would probably have to be somehow locked/read-only so that players can't mess about with it.

Thoughts on the unique battles;
There's no challenge and little variation, which is why I support healing the unique. I'm starting to like the pre-fights better than the main event.
In light of the current raffle automation, I could support a spreadsheet where each player checked a box for accept/deny (or auto-accepted) and the thing ran itself.

If we want more challenge, maybe a certain class of unique like dragon hatchlings could have a maximum fight skill to participate. I don't want to discourage the awesome, more experienced players from participating in general because the combat log shows just how few of us actually do damage. However, maybe a few hatchling wipes of >20 but <90 FS players is just what we need It would be like a Tier 1 dungeon.

The new raffle system is the first thing that comes to mind. It is great, it is fast, it is efficient and I'm sure it takes a load out of the staffs shoulders. However, as a player, I think it is a bit too impersonal as it currently stands. We do not have time to interact between the raffles, I've been on two events where it was used and after the first raffled item I was completely lost on what item we were working on and who won and what. I do not know anything about the mod but the script/mod Snidor made and used on some of the events was fast as well, didn't lack interaction of the attendees and it worked.. Most of the time at least. I'm sure it had something to manage and required something from the organizers but as far as I was able to see it was mostly automatic. But as said, I do not know anything about it and I have nothing against the current one but it just lacks the feel of the community. Event arenas are great and atleast on Novus they are quite conveniently located. All of them are also unique, so repetition isn't an issue in my eyes unless the unique just decides to spawn to the same area several times in a row. Some players even have arenas that can be used! Trapping can be a hassle but only once I haven't been able to get someone to seal it and they do not dig out THAT fast from the trap so waiting till the next day shouldn't pose a problem. However I do now know how much hassle it is for the staff to work the ticket that I have to open to get the trap sealed. I was at the Liberty event and I thought I had dozed off as I didn't see the unique being dug up but it was summoned to the location as it seems. I'm sure the hunters did a marvelous job on Liberty! But as I hunt uniques on Novus I'd like to put my two cents in as well. If I hunt and trap the unique to specific location I'm expecting that the event will be held at the location I have trapped it. I agree with Dordain, digging it out of the trap builds suspence and marks the start of the slaying, you can see how excited people get when they see you guys heading towards the trap with a pickaxe. Yes, some mobs are a ton of work and take a lot of time some even grind my gears to the point I was not able to keep my cool at the end.. (sorry Elfin, Knightshade and others who were there) But that is what it is. I'm completely against summoning the mob to the location to be slain from Fo knows where. However.. Since we no longer have a lot of people hunting uniques we just have to train more. What I'm thinking is not me going to a random Sklotopolian and dragging them with me but make an event out of the hunt itself. Not like from all of it but let's say we find the unique, it usually stays in the same general area, then make the kiting and trapping as the event with convinient times for staff and players to be present so it won't be so surprising. Maybe a little price for the hunters would be good as well, but I myself don't do it for the prize. I just like to see people coming to the events! And not all kites have to be events, of course, but some could be. Why not, we lose nothing and we might gain more hunters. edit: I forgot to mention the other events apart from slayings. Halloween and other events I've taken part in have been great, good execution and apart from slight communication issues (read: me not reading everything from the forum post..) they have been successes! I think we DO need some wipes to the unique slaying events.. The trolls at the black drake slaying were a nice touch. Maybe armies of trolls can pour out from somewhere when we are slaying the Troll King or something! As a player I really hope we can get the 4 week spawn times back for them, since 6 weeks is after all quite a long time. Let's say we want a double event, we'd have to wait 3 months and just forget the other unique. Well, I have the Sklotopolis app so I won't forget but still I have also motioned before to have certain players added into "hunter roles" so to speak with a tad more permissions to the event arenas but I understand it is a massive, massive risk. The sealing requires certain permissions, which we have checked and tested with staff at one point, which leaves the event arena vulnerable for griefing. Pre-event thingies can be fun as well but they will be a ton of work for the staff so even if the staff is great from my experience, they are humans. Well, Tomservo is a seal-slaying-robot but I'm sure they run out of batteries as well! I wish there would be a solution to get more pre-events going without having the staff stress too much about it as I'm sure just making the event can be stressful with timings, tanks etc. but I have no ideas on how to work on that, sorry. Keep up the good work Elfin, Olloyd, Dweia and others of event organizing and Sklotopolis CA/Staff but don't overwork yourselves!

New event idea: a "county fare" where animals are auctioned, competitions for feats of strength (race to carry x weight across y distance), climbing competitions, horse obstacle course race (people bring their own bred horses), wagon transport (requiring multiple trips) through obstacle course, and competition for the strangest/funniest autogenerated horse name with 1 animal entry per player.

Awesome feedback. Seems hunting and trapping are a great part of the Sklotopolis adventure for some. The latest dragon was found and trapped within hours - Congratulations to those hunters/trappers. Hunting and trapping will always remain an option. The staff now have the ability to summon to the event any unique which manages to elude capture (which some have in the past for weeks). It can be summoned into a cave pre fight . So both scenarios are covered. Re the event site. No reason why it cannot be in the 'wild'. In fact that would add to fun. May even become chaotic. Digging out the unique at events adds to the suspense seems clear. The input re the raffle is appreciated and we will slow down the time a little. Keep an eye on the Sklos event tab - all item, donor, winner, accept, decline info will still remain there. As staff, I appreciate the ease which this can now be done by one player. Events in the pipeline:- On Liberty we have the Ransacking of an entire town hosted by Dordain. Bring tents. - March. On Novus Carus is putting the final touches to her Labyrinth event. - April. sklotopolis.freeforums.net/thread/6536/sneak-peek-labyrinth-life-adventureMore information will be posted on Events thread re these two events as the time draws closer. A few villages have built some amazing arenas, areas with ideas - let's put them to use. I would like to encourage and remind all, here in Sklotopolis, any player events will be encouraged and supported by staff. Feel free to pm and chat with myself or other staff. Thanks again to all who put the time and event to share thoughts and give input.

Idea: pet wrestling.
Probably at the PvP arena, players arrive with their tamed pets and have them fight each other. Separately, even at the same time, players have their dominated pets fight. Split is needed because dominated trolls can probably beat anything tammable but dominated troll vs dominated hell scorp could be interesting.
Rewards could be anything from slayed corpses, including the gear if any was given to the pet to titles to satisfaction or anything people donate.
Wrestling ladder and eliminations every so often might make it in to a long term, recurring event.
Let the industrial troll breeding commence!

Sounds interesting, could be a lot of fun Meredit. There is a pvp arena on Liberty that could be used. Would you be willing to set it up and Host? Lol, it was just an idea and we don't know if there would be any interest in such event :-) I'd say at least 10 players would have to be interested in this so that spectators have something to watch. finding 10 people who can bring pets of some sort to a remote area in the middle of nowhere might be a hard push but it could be added to other events maybe?
