I don't think this would be doable server-side but the compass mod already shows the angle so the client does know it: I wonder if it would be possible to create a clientside mod to mimic the WO functionality whereby vehicles can be easily aligned to cardinal directions by roughly pointing the front of the vehicle towards one of them and repeatedly pressing "move_forward" key or holding X (autorun). I have tried looking for such mod to no avail. Driving long distances and rarely being able to set the wagon "straight" so that no course corrections would be necessary does not spark joy :-(

i tried them already a long time ago^^. the problem is, it need to be implemented by serverside. unlucky, there's no default action which we could call.

Vehicle orientation is server authoritive. That is why it lags a bit behind. The server must give the ok that the movement is allowed before the client is turning.

I still have to ask: So is it something that we can hope for in future? I know we have some really smart people here so i'm still not losing hope :-P

I no no coder so just thinking out loud but like, what if it referenced the compass image on the hud, then made inputs based on that? To keep it client side.

That's what i was hoping for, align the character to the nearest 0/90/180/270 degrees client side with a hotkey or something. It would have to move the character/vehicle though, not the camera which might be handled by the server and what we see is what the client gets back from the server (which would explain the drifting when we lag a bit). Series of correcting inputs to turn the vehicle sent by the client might spam the server too much maybe? Bigger heads than mine would have to look in to this but they did it in WO and it was one of the best QoL improvements for me personally in a long time.
