Any new updates on the PVP server? How is it coming along? Can we get an approx time frame when it can be expected? Any info would be great plz I know alot of ppl are looking forward to it and have tried to wait patiently ... me included lol Kat

I don't want to speak out of turn, but our development team has been very busy with wrapping up their school year. We can probably expect development to continue on this summer. I'll let Dom or Engi fill in the details. Hope that gives you some level of answers:)

Yup the feature list for pvp is finish and the map looks already quite good too.
The development of the PVP Features will be finished this summer. Quite a few nice Features planned I hope we can manage to implement all of them

I don't think that I can give any ETA or time frame. The outcome of WU just went a bit different than expected, there aren't enough players to think about PVP atm and also the overall player base of WU doesn't look like that there would be enough interest in a PVP server, PVP just doesn't work on a lot other servers too. Furthermore we have a lot of work with keeping up the overall population on just one server. Also my time is due to the fact that I am doing most technical things comepltly alone very limited and nobody is working on this project for living, it consumes huge amounts of time and I often really lack on time depends on which part of the year it is. We can speak about that again if Wurm Unlimited is getting a blast with more people playing it but at the moment there are not enough players.

Having played on most of the other WU server I tend to agree. If you open up another server, the population will suffer on both sides. You would end up with less people on PVE and not enough on the PVP server to make it worthwhile.

Managing a PVP server is also completely different from PVE, as cheating has a much larger impact and it takes quite a bit of policing as well.

A couple of us were discussing an alternative approach the other day in chat. I would be interested in hearing if others like the idea before we ask Dom to implement. For a PVP like alternative, we can do something with the PVP zone to keep it separate, yet on the same server for ease of maintenance on Dom's part. One option mentioned was to implement HotA. It's like a capture the flag type game as I understand it, with a wurm twist that would spawn maybe weekly...with prizes to the winners who participate. That could be fun, and not all out PVP like a divided server would be. Plus I'm not sure how much PVP interest we have on this server, so at least this way we aren't divided.
As for the hunting server, instead of creating a brand new server, IF there is room...perhaps we can create a hunting island zone of sorts on the map somewhere. On this portion of the map, there could be tougher mobs (i.e. no gumps or rifts or whatever else we can have). I am personally not familiar with all the different creatures we haven't seen yet, but this could be a place like a hunting server folks with 70+ FS can go to for a challenge and some additional skill. Having the island achieves that, while keeping the mobs away from newbies on the main land, and helps Dom only maintain one server.
Just throwing out some options here to compromise if you will. A dedicated server for those features would be preferred, but perhaps we can meet in the middle to help out our DEVs too while still getting what we want.

If the PvP zone we have now was being used I would say move forward with a map but honestly has there ever been a single fight in the PvP zone? Even though created by GMs a lot of time went into the PvP zone. Its very well done and just completely unused. I still plan on putting a armor vendor there sometime soon just in case the random traveler stops by but I would recommend anyone who hasn't been there go check it out its a very neat place.
P.s. If the devs ever abandon the PvP area I call dibs on deeding the entire place. Thanksss

I really like the idea of PVP/Hunting zones on the PVE server. It wouldn't be the same as normal PVP servers as you wouldn't have the Kingdom vs Kingdom angle, but if you set people against eachother to achieve a goal it could be fun. I admit I haven't visited the pvp zone yet. I still have low FS and basic armour. Also, could a portal be setup to go there? One of the challenges of pvp for me in the past is how long it takes to get to the action, complete the action and get home again!

Would love the idea of building one the "epic portals" like you could build in WO in my back yard that takes you to the PvP zone. Portal is a good idea Senitor.

The rift spawning code, to my knowledge, was deliberately left out of the WU codebase, so unfortunately, not a case of "turning them on".
