Introducing our first Liberty Lives! Interview - Kharlotta - Mayor of The Bridge House and The Cedar Hills Ranch. Previously from Aboria.
Kharlotta entered Sklotopolis at Haven with her boyfriend after having tried two other servers. Their experiences on the other servers had been traumatic.
Kharlotta:
“The first server I tried traumatized me lol . I spawned into the world with no clue what I was doing, found somebody's deed and thought ‘I’ll go take a peek’, and their guards were like ‘ I DON'T THINK SO!!!!!’ , Lol. I ran for what seemed like ages but they didn't give up, they even chased me well past the perimeter of the deed I tried to visit.
“Next we tried another server but it had no other players and we still had no clue so we continued the search.
“Sklo was our third try and it became our home! .
“At first I loved how learning to make things was SO much easier and the lovely 25 skill start made making them a breeze, but I think what really made me stay was the awesome community!
“Our first stop was the free horse sign, then the public mine where we discovered that the task of making a cart to ride on was super easy and then we set off to find a place of our own, though we did run into a little trouble when we tried to fight a boar and got our butts kicked.
“Took ages to get back to the cart without the map, lol.
“We ate like kings when we finally realized tents are your friend and we killed that boar, lol.
“It took us most of the day to settle on the spot where my boyfriend's deed is (Aboria). We shared that place for quite a while before I made the bridge house.
“The bridge was already there, which inspired the name. We decided that we wanted to try our hand at running an inn but ran out of room to build one at Arboria so I started a new deed there that was just large enough for the inn.
“I later expanded it to add the storage house and animal pens.
“Actually the lack of space to expand because of having so many neighbours is what made me make Cedar Hills Ranch so I could breed my bison, though I got a bit creative and made it much larger and when it is finished it will be opened to the community as a place where players and gm's can hold events! .
“My favourite thing about the bridge house would have to be the view, even with a few trees from the sprout farm in the way its a very pretty area with a great view of the bay.
“I love examining those beds to find that I’ve had visitors! Makes it all feel worthwhile to know that others like what I've done! .
“I used to find gifts left at the inn every so often until I had to change the building perms, those were awesome as well .
“One of the best parts, I think, is during the New Year's event when the fireworks are going off during the coin hunt. I like to stand on the bridge and watch them.
“The funniest thing to happen would be me walking off the top floor of the inn before the walls were up because I wasn't paying attention and almost killing myself, lol.
“The only real issue I have with this spot is the lack of a good place to start a mine. Being so close to the water, anywhere I try to open one is going to flood.”
THE TOUR
After this chat with Kharlotta we all met at The Bridge House: Tomservo the observer, Elfin the intrepid reporter and Kharlotta owner and mayor.
After this chat with Kharlotta we all met at The Bridge House: Tomservo the observer, Elfin the intrepid reporter and Kharlotta owner and mayor.
We first toured Aboria.
Kharlotta: “ Hmm, I love the time spent with my boyfriend working on this place and the lovely view here in the front. When we decided to run an inn we ran out of room to do it here. We didn't have much money to expand here at the time so I made a free deed to build it on! ”.
Then onto The Bridge House.
Kharlotta: “I added another floor to it a while back to fix the roof. With each floor only being one tile high the walls of the rooms didn't meet the roof so I added another floor so you can’t see over the top of the walls. I had a ton of ideas I tried to squish into a tiny starter deed! Thankfully the land to the west opened up so I could spread it out a bit more.
“When I first started this place I had the hedge area open to the public as well but I locked it so nobody would get stung by my bees.
“The animals don’t get much use aside from breeding these days but I make sure they all have enough food and a good grooming .
“Before the cooking update I left the building perms so that the kitchen was fully functional but I had to remove those perms when somebody came in and stole all of my rugs and tools . But I have plans to add a new building that will be a kitchen where everybody can cook if they want to and experiment with the new cooking recipes.”
Tomservo:
“How does the inside of the inn look.”
Kharlotta:
“The first floor is a dining area I put together with role-players in mind. The long table I tried to make look like a bar without having huge barrels in the way of the window.
“Second floor is the small bedrooms .
“This is the one with the rare bed.
“They all look pretty much the same but some have windows.
“Four stalls and I will feed your horse if you leave it here .
“Six small bedrooms that are open to the community and the one large royal suite.
“The royal suite takes up the entire third floor minus the stairs to the storage room. The royal suite sitting room has a balcony overlooking the hedge area. The bedroom area of the royal suite has a lovely canopy bed and more furniture than the small rooms.”
Elfin:
“An awesome view and your tall banner in background .”
Kharlotta:
“I do love that banner”.
Elfin:
“Would you show us your gardens and the view you enjoy the most?”
Khalotta:
“This is one of my favourite spots, its very peaceful and has a great view when the willow isn't in the way."
"
Over here we have the sprout farm! It has at least two of every kind of tree and all trees and bushes here are sproutable by the community. I try to keep up the pruning so that they offer sprouts as often as possible.”
"I guess the only other thing worth seeing out here is the pavilion with a couple of chairs across from the mag colossus. This area has a nice view and the fountain is on a water tile so its full ."
The New Public Dock at The Bridge House.
Kharlotta:
“ This dock is mostly off-deed so everybody can load and unload items, and I dredged it out deep enough to accommodate all boats. The lights are also coloured so it’s hard to miss at night.”
After this tour we drove on to Cedar Hills Ranch
Kharlotta:
“Cedar Hills Ranch started out as a place for me to breed my bison as I ran out of room here. I am now building it up to be a place for everybody to hold events! I am building it with events as large as impalongs in mind. When I first brought my alt down here there were a lot of deeds in the area. I ended up settling here across the road from Amberly's ranch.
“In here we have the small crafting buildings which are not entirely furnished yet but they will be soon. Also the bison pens and the mansion."
"The mansion! its not entirely furnished yet either but that is coming soon as well."
"This floor will be a large dining hall, this is my first ever two tile high floor building."
"Upstairs we have the bedroom and a small deck. The deck goes all the way around, and the third floor is the observation deck. Eventually this building will be entirely open to the community for wandering around and seeing the different views.
"
“Here is my small park for sitting around and chit chatting during events. I think I have every crafting building needed for an impalong here. Aside from a noobie crafting building. Which I can set up easily in the storehouse if needed. The kitchen is probably the most furnished of the crafting buildings."
“This will be the inn when its done, it will have 12 two tile bedrooms. Another dining area for sitting around and anyone who wants to role-play. It will also have another observation deck as the third floor."
We discussed the other areas of the beautiful village and her plans for them in the future
“The prayer garden for sermons. I also connected this part with the main road on both sides so you don't have to go through the entire deed to get back here.
My mob proof fence to keep the baddies away while your event is going on . We get a lot of trolls and wolves here. Once I finish the inn, this will be where the auction house will go. A building where live auctions can be held. As either a bit of fun or for those who don't want to wait for the timer to expire on the forums. Two buildings and some decorations to go before it will be open for events and visitors.
"
“Right now this place is getting all of my energy and it is nearing completion! Of course I give away bison here too.
I love building things and making them look pretty."
After this brief tour we headed back to The Bridge House. Kharlotta showed us her amazing view on the bridge
As it became dark, Kharlotta had a special surprise for us: Fireworks!
We stayed a while and chatted til morning and the time had come for us to part ways
Kharlotta was a gracious host and we really enjoyed her village(s) and learning a bit of history about one of our very own Liberty Citizens.
As we embarked upon our cart and wagon, Kharlotta left us with this parting statement:
