A long standing issue plaguing WU players since the final update has been issues surrounding semi-transparent models while using the new modern renderer engine. i.e. the white/black lights, spirit mobs (like the eaglespirits and drakespirits) or item placement outlines (also catseye coverage, which affects a store item)
The fastest and most reliable way to remedy this is to open your launcher settings, go to the compatibility tab (don't be in game) and turn either VBOs or FBOs to extension instead of core. This has the unfortunate side effect of lowering some graphics settings, especially those controlling how many light sources you can see working at once. But what can you do, right?
Well, you can mod your game. Bdew actually made a fix for this years ago but it never got much attention because he didn't add it to his main thread. You'd have to dig through the wurm forums or his github repos to find it. Anyways, here it is, Bdew's FixVBO mod. Just install it like any other mod, turn your VBOs/FBOs back up to core and enjoy. Edit: Highway protection view (also used for placing resource tiles) comes up transparent black instead of green. Not a big deal.
If you don't know how to install mods... I would look for another guide for now. Or ask in game.

I recommend this tweak highly, clearly many opengl functions wern't transferred to the new system, shame on codeclub. thanks for sharing it. It fixes more than just the aforementioned... suddenly i could see the morning sun shining itself on buildings, a much more immersive, realistic application of light tracing. Insane glow caused by too many lights became more subtle and flickered slightly if that light is a fireplace and that rift light.. dissonance waveform wrapped around it instead of just a column of red.
