Greetings Sklo. You may have seen some new lights in the sky, this thread should answer most questions you have. I'll be keeping it relatively short and sweet. Q: What are they? A: Meteor showers! Dropping meteorites across the lands of wurm. Pay attention to where they're landing, and you may be able to find them! Q: Cool! What do I get from them? A: You can mine them! They're a small source of high quality ores. If you're really lucky, you might also find some ore from the moon itself. Q: How often do we get them? A: You should expect to see showers around every week or so (Subject to future balancing from Dom) - They will drop in clusters around the entire map. There should be enough that if you chase one down you can mine some. - Hint: Meteor showers only happen at night. If you have a spyglass, you can gauge when one might happen! Q: How can I find them? What if I wasn't around to see where they landed? A: For anyone online at the time, running in the same direction you saw them is a good start. 1: They will not drop in deep water, steep mountainsides, nor on anyone's deed. Nor are they destructive in any way. 2: Until you log out, they also create fire where they land. You can listen for that. 3: If you missed the shower, you just kinda have to stumble upon them one day. You need to be rather close to see them.
That's all for now. Happy hunting and don't get hit by any stray space rocks.

Is there always a burning sound?
The first time I've have had the meteor shower notice, I noted the general direction, and as soon as I got out of my deed on the shore and the marine frog sound died out, there was this strong sound of burning fire to direct me to the to locations. It was quite fun, a trip about 3/4 of the way to the opposite side of the island.
Then after another notice I got disconnected, and upon reconnecting there was no sound to direct me, so I didn't bother. It sound more like a bug than a feature tough. (edit: I understand it is supposed to die when one is disconnected)
Today I got another notice, but even without disconnecting I never got the directional sound. I've traveled 1/4 of the way to the other side in case the sound had a limited range, but never got anything and gave up, it's like looking for the proverbial needle in a haystack.
I don't notice a large middle of the screen popup the first time, when I got the directional sound, only the message in chat, though I may have been missed it. Today there were both a huge on-screen message and one in the chat window, but no directional sound. Have there been any changes to the meteor mod, or am I doing something wrong on my end to not have gotten any sound?

There was no changes. Unfortunately any limitation is on the client, if they land way too far away you'll never get the fire sound. It won't start once you get closer either, it has to start close enough to you.

- Hint: Meteor showers only happen at night. If you have a spyglass, you can gauge when one might happen! I'm not sure I understand. So I just look at something with a spyglass and a message will tell me when approximately the next meteor shower will happen?

I don't want to buy something when I have no idea what it actually does.

Don't buy a spyglass. You'll get one after playing for a year. I've never seen any meteors with mine anyway..

The spyglass has got a new special action, which will tell you when the next one happens
