Hi,
The map looks already pretty much civilized right now, doesn't it? Or maybe I have trouble comparing the distance between settlements on this 4096x4096 map as compared to Deli's 2048x2048. I'm not sure that all the settlements I am seeing on the map are still active either. Anyway, any good direction I should go from the newbie spawn to find some nice flat land by the sea shore, not at the doorstep of someone's deed? Somewhere on the southern or SE shore?
Also, in WO we spawn with a deed paper and 10s to start a deed. I don't see any coins in my inventory, and apparently only 4s worth of deed is free. That's two templars as per the WO prices. In WO or WU SP I'd never start a deed without guards, certainly not as a helpless newbie, and I'd be wary to start with 1. What am I missing?
Thanks.

You do have to pay to set up guards on your deed if you want them here on Sklotopolis - but you also earn coin for being online, 8i every minute. It adds up fast. You can check your bank to see what your balance is, or you can donate towards the server for a bit of silver. You can also build guard towers for 5s each (50ql), and roads for 1s each (20 tiles per silver). The map may *look* mostly civilized, but not every deed on the map is active, just like with WO maps. Move further away from the spawn, and you'll see plenty of room. You may also want to temporarily join another village just to get to know your way around while you're looking for your own place. It also helps to zoom in on the map, at first it's a whole lot of icons, but get rid of the extra ones, and zoom a bit, and you'll see just how much space there is. Not all land is going to come flat, but if flat is what you're looking for, the East coast (South East especially) is pretty flat with no mountains. You have a deed stake on your person when you spawn, you can use that to place an 8x8x8x8 deed for free (without guards). Anything larger requires coin. If you're very concerned about not having guards, there are plenty of guard towers created, you could try deeding near one - and also remember you start with 20 to all skills, gear, and a weapon. There's also bonuses to combat. It's not as rough out there as you may believe. I hope this helps answer some of your questions.

Thanks for the reply. I have missed the silver purchase option, I have no problem with that. Much better than working in the game for pennies after a an actual workday . Building towers and roads at 20 skill must not be very fun, but 20 was so long ago in WO. Re: not having guards: do you think that at 20 in all fighting skills and with the starting ql 30 gear I can take on a spider or a mountain lion? Rats should be ok, and I never saw a crab before, so no idea.

Rats should be ok, and I never saw a crab before, so no idea. Roads at 20 skill is pretty easy, towers would require closer to 40-50 because they need to be 50 ql but remember skill gain here is also 5x faster. By the time you create the materials and do a few little extra things, you'd be there. There's a grind, but it's much less of one than WO if you're used to that. Yes to the mountain lion - maybe to the spider, that would be harder and might require kiting it a bit, or healing between attacks while you run away a few tiles until it drops off. Remember at the spawn point (NewTown) you can get a free horse. I'd pick that up. Also keep in mind movement here is faster on a cart hitched than just riding a horse. Crabs are pretty easy. YMMV depending on the age of the crab.

Heyo, Welcome to Sklo. To answer your questions, I will take them one by one for ya 1. We do have a lot of player deeds on the map but there is still tons of the map uncivilized ( here is our map); especially, if you head away from Newtown in the Northwest. The South and East have lots of land available for deeding. Just as on WO, there are deeds that are not active (yet to be updated on the map) and can be turned in as abandoned on the forums. Yes, the distance can be quite tricky to judge if you don't zoom in on the map, there is more open space than it seems. 2. As for deeding here at Sklo, it is not much different than WO, but deed papers have been removed and now a deed stake is used. The 4s that the server gives to new players is hidden in the background and will be used when you deed. For that amount of silver you can deed up to a 9x9x10x10 with no guard for 3s99c, or a 7x7x7x7 with 1 guard. Any larger of a deed or more guards you would need to have extra silver to do this. There are a multitude of ways to earn coin on the server - you automatically gain 8i per minute you are online, we have the bounty and bury mods installed which earns you coin by hunting and burying your kills, 5s for building a 50ql guard tower near a road or deed, 2x20 tile highway for 1s per section, donating to the server, and as always selling goods to other players. With the starting skills all being at 20+ and the combat rating having an increase on the server most early creatures don't pose too much of a threat, I wouldn't just go out and attack a troll right away. I hope that this answers your questions and helps with some of the things available on the server. If you have any other questions then please ask us, either in the forums or in game, we have a very helpful and active community here at Sklo. There are quite a few different mechanics between WO and WU so not always is Wurmpedia 100% accurate. Also, there have been changes made to the game play by the server admins and for a list of what the server has to offer then please check out the Server Features Section. If there is anything else then just let us know. Happy Gaming and look forward to seeing you in game. maratdesade

Thank you for your response. Funny thing, the page giving details of the new features here has much less info than the advert post on the WU forums . Anyway, concerning deed decay, both pages say "Free upkeep for all villages". Does "village" in this sentance mean "deed" or "deed with more than one inhabitant"? If upkeep is free, then structures don't decay? And if so, (my main concern), in case RL calls, or, more honestly, when Bethesda releases something new, can one leave for 1-2 months and find his stuff later? I don't see anything about the Rolftax, do we still lose 5% of our bulk storage contents every month, that we earned through sweat, blood and tears? Animals still take 24-ish days to reach breeding age?

Welcome to Sklotopolis Hope to see you soon ingame and have a happy time here. There is no deed upkeep but there is deed decay but not rapidly. Also the free did is just a small size. anything bigger u will need to get silvers to expand. Happy Sklotopoling!

There is no deed upkeep but there is deed decay but not rapidly. I am not sure I understood this. In WO, as long as I pay money I don't have to worry about doing extra work to maintain my structures. On Skloto I don't pay, but have to regularly go around every structure to repair it? It sounds like an extra chore has been added. Is there an option to fill my deed coffers with silver to remove decay?

Other items on-deed will decay just as they do with WO (at least this has been my experience, buildings on-deed remain at 0 damage). No extra chores.

I'd like to make sure I understand the colors on the map correctly. 1 = sand 2 = steppes 3 = clay (looks too big though) TundraCorrect?
