At minimum, you need Life Transfer (LT) cast on your weapon
Even better would be to have casts of nimbleness, circle of cunning, and either mind stealer or animal demise
- or other demise, depending on the quality of your weapon and how much you wish to spend on it
Set your fight mode to aggressive fighting
Ensure your armour and weapon are all repaired
Ensure your armour and weapon are all repaired
Keep your water and food levels up
If you can, eat affinity meals for body strength, body stamina, mind logic and aggressive fightingIn your inventory: have a tent to drop if needed, along with cotton, healing covers, and farmer's salve to heal yourself
Healing covers and Farmer's Salve need to be kept in your inventory or backpack, else they decay
Cotton is used to heal most wounds
Look at Creatures in Wurmpedia for a list of creatures' Fighting Skills
Check and note your Fight Skills (FS) and Aggressive Fighting levels so that you can check your progress
Initially fight only mobs that you think you can take on easily - e.g. wolf, cats and rats at beginner level
When in combat with 1 mob
- check your combat tab to see if it is only that mob hitting you
- you can also look around you while fighting to see if any other mobs are around you coming for you etc
- when your Health bar reaches 50% back away or run - and heal up before returning to the fight
if there are lots of mobs - select the nearest then back away to draw it away from the others, so it is 1 on 1 - and not 5 on you
You get better FS gains on foot. Also when on foot and you are higher than the mob you have the advantage
Sometimes being on horse is better than foot, but not in a cart - although trolls and fiends sometimes hit your cart or wagon rather than you, so it is your choice
Also a cart gives you place to store your meat and bits from butchering, although if your horse has saddle bags, those can be used for storage as well
Good play practice is to butcher and bury every corpse of mobs you have killed - for which you are rewarded 50 irons for each burial
Use "bury all" so as not to leave a mess behind
After a fight heal yourself up and repair your armour and weapons and check your FS and weapon skill gains
Greenish mobs give great FS gains - they are the only ones that do
So put your Sleep Bonus (SB) on when fighting them - just remember to turn SB off afterwards - use the zzz icon on the quick bar or type /fsleep
When you get better FS - you can heal some wounds by killing an easy mob like a pig or wolf for example
Here are another couple of tips re: trolls
When on your own especially, drag the troll to a guard tower or near one and call guards, select no target, let the guards tank, and then target again as a passenger fighter
That will save your armour - trolls do a lot of damage to armour when you go at them 1 to 1
Sometimes butcher with a low quality butchering knife, to get low quality glands and teeth which are great for natural substance skilling later on
Mix them together for lightweight but very effective healing covers, but mostly for skilling up natural substance and alchemy skillsPvP zone on Liberty is at: andistyr.github.io/wu-map/14816/#2876_2449 and there is one on Novus as well
