That's really bad. They didn't make as much as money as they wanted from Steam with WU, so they're going to make a direct competitor to their own product? And if that doesn't work out, will they also abandon that product? Ridiculously stupid business plan.

We'll be working closely with server admins and modders via the Discord server in providing as much support as we can. Spoiler they are not cooperating at all. They basically just tell us what they can not do for us And the modloader added to the client is a big joke, as there will not be any mods preinstalled, which doesn't change anything from vanilla. This means new players have to install everything manually, expect the modloader itself which is/was the smallest part. We can not hand out custom models, even with this change, because they deny to include the serverpacks mod.

I see, maybe the don't want WU servers to do that, or maybe it's too security-risky to give servers the ability to run client side code, for some servers at least.

I see, maybe the don't want WU servers to do that, or maybe it's too security-risky to give servers the ability to run client side code, for some servers at least. the devs come with this argument, yes. but if they would support us as much is possible, they could implement a little modmanager, which a lot other games use. for example: factorio, eco, fs etc. all this games give you a list of mods, shich you need to connect to the server. but here, they could make it easier. implement the servpacks for the clients and add a checkbox in the launcher. or a yes/no window when you wanna join the server, which inform players that the server has own content and ask if you give permission to download them. they have a lot possibilities, but no real interest. an example is the model converter (a tool to convert 3d models in a specific wurm model format), they realeased one in june 2018. at the same time, they annouced a new version with more features etc. but nothing happened... perhaps, we need to create an own launcher. for me, and i think for the majority it's not difficult to install the mods self, but i saw enough question in chat about installing mods .

i see, so - they prob don's want their own product to compete with their other own product, we really don't need them if they give community the ability to mod it properly.

but... mod devs can make what you just suggested iam, and community don't really have any other choice now. Let me imp it a bit - as long as you are a noob (24h noity) you can play without server mods, after that time - must install server mods, as you suggested (check-boxes and such)

Finally, the time felt right to do this. I had a breakthrough yesterday and came a huge step closer to distant rendering in WU. Still far away from being finished but I am on the way.
